What Has The Dade County Medical Association Done For ALL Physicians Lately?
Each year, your DCMA/PAC interviews candidates running for office, hosts or co-hosts legislative fundraisers, makes recommendations on candidate support.
DCMA Key Contact Physicians and leadership communicate with legislators on a year-round basis; more extensively during the legislative session.
DCMA physicians serve on the FMA Council on Legislation and participate in determining the legislative agenda each year.
DCMA has spent countless hours in communications and meetings with First Coast Service Options - the Medicare contractor for Florida - in efforts to limit and reduce their onerous prepayment review requirements and to clarify the claims payment process. This is an ongoing effort. The DCMA has communicated with Florida's Congressional Delegation on this issue and the issue of Medicare fraud in Miami-Dade County.
DCMA met with Florida Attorney General, Bill McCollum and others on the issue of preventing Medicaid fraud in Miami-Dade County.
DCMA opposed legislation to allow hospital board policy to unilaterally supersede medical staff bylaws in conflicts over privileges, contracting and quality issues. Although the legislation did pass, we followed up with this onto the Florida Supreme Court level where the court issued a ruling that reaffirmed medical staff bylaws are a binding contract. To preclude this from happening at hospitals in Miami-Dade County DCMA provided each chief of staff in a Miami-Dade County Hospital with a copy of the Physicians Guide to Medical Staff Organization Bylaws and the Principles for Strengthening the physician-hospital relationship to assist them with revising medical staff bylaws at their local hospital.
Hosted three meetings with chiefs of staff to solicit input from them on issues impacting physicians and patients.
DCMA spearheaded a grassroots campaign to stop the planned 20%+ cuts in Medicare payments. This too is an ongoing battle until we are successful in getting the SGR formula changed.
DCMA Delegates and Alternate Delegates actively participate in Florida Medical Association and American Medical Association House of Delegates meetings to develop statewide and national policy on issues affecting physicians and patient care.
DCMA member physicians receive email and fax information on a regular basis regarding health department alerts, Medicare and Board of Medicine rules and regulations, licensure renewals, and other issues doctors need to be aware of. DCMA obtains a list of doctors who have not renewed their medical license by December 1st of each year and personally calls those who are members of the DCMA to remind them to renew.
DCMA holds CME and practice management seminars for physicians and their office staff. Topics have included mandatory CME topics, how to increase practice revenues, reduce overhead and gain control; EHR Best Practice Series: How to Best Select and Purchase an EHR; "Heal the Claims Process" Physicians Claim What is Rightfully Yours; The Nuts & Bolts of Merging Medical Practices; Transform Your Medical Office: New Practice Models To Meet The Challenges of the 21st Century.
DCMA publishes a monthly issue of Miami Medicine - filled with articles to help physicians in their practice and update physicians on activities of the DCMA. For over 15 years Miami Medicine has published a monthly article on medical information technology - and technology in general.
For 6 years DCMA in conjunction with The Miami Herald has published a South Florida Guide to Good Health, listing members of the DCMA. This publication markets your practice to approximately 300,000 households in Miami-Dade County.
DCMA consistently works to increase and expand the Vendor of Choice participants. Depending on the vendor, DCMA members are eligible for discounts up to 33%. Please go to the DCMA website - www.miamimed.com - for additional information on these services.
