April 14, 2014 Legislative Update from Tallahassee - Week Six

HEALTH INSURANCE LEGISLATION (SB 1354/HB 1001) 

On Tuesday, April 8, SB 1354 by Senator Denise Grimsley unanimously passed the Senate Banking & Insurance Committee. This was the final committee stop for SB 1354, and it is now ready to go before the full Senate for a vote.

April 4, 2014 Legislative Update from Tallahassee - Week Five

HEALTH INSURANCE LEGISLATION (SB 1354/HB 1001) 

On Tuesday, April 1, SB 1354 by Senator Denise Grimsley was temporarily postponed in the Senate Banking & Insurance Committee because of a minor technical issue. However, the committee will take up SB 1354 on Tuesday, April 8, when it meets again. Thank you to FMA Council on Legislation Chairman Neal Dunn, M.D., for taking time away from his busy practice on Tuesday to be in Tallahassee and ready to testify before the Senate Banking & Insurance Committee.

As week three of the 2014 legislative session draws to a close, here is what is on the horizon for next week. On Tuesday, March 25, the Senate Heath Policy Committee will hear two very important bills that require everyone's attention and action: Senate Bill (SB) 1354, the DCMA/FMA's health insurance legislation, and SB 1352, the nurse practitioner controlled substance prescribing legislation. Also on March 25, we expect the House Insurance & Banking Subcommittee to take up House Bill (HB) 1001, which is the companion to SB 1354.

March 15, 2014 FMA Legislative Update from Tallahassee - Week Two

On Monday, week two of the 2014 legislative session began with the FMA hosting a meeting with all specialty society lobbyists. This is a standing Monday morning meeting that takes place during the legislative session at their downtown office near the Capitol. It provides the House of Medicine’s lobbying team with an opportunity to share information and coordinate strategy.
